The German problem

Germans have been blamed for over fishing and taking to many undersized fish. The current issue with the dwindling numbers of fish along our coast is a sore point here in Norway yet pointing the finger is never a good way to come to the bottom of any problem.

Numbers and figures tell many stories but of late some people are printing so much misinformation that it’s time to set the record straight. Christian Kracke from Vögler's Angelreisen admits that the average tourist leaves Norway with a freezer full of fish and this is reason for people questioning the numbers of fish killed here each summer. As a result of all the bad press the government department that oversees our coast has introduced a new minimum of 37cm for cod. This is one measure that will ensure that people reduce the bad press.

The other major problem is the facts that are flying around in News papers don’t add up. It has been claimed that the German tourist front is responsible for catching 12-15 ton of fish annually. This averages out to be around 70 kilo of fish per person.

As it has been claimed that this is a monster problem but there seems to be no true research into the continuing conflict both side of this argument are saying this and that but without the correct people looking into this problem it is an issue that will never vanish.
