Bigger fish are back at Glomma

Minimum length for both trout and greyling in 1996 was a respectable 30-cm but the new figures have just been realised and it’s good news!

In 1998 28 percent of greyling measured over 40cm. The combined efforts of John Haakon Stensli (fish consultant) and Jon Museth and Tore Qvenild from the Department of Environment have ensured that the fish in the lake have a secure future. They have studied the river for the last five years and now are pleased to say that the future is looking positive.

Many factors have influenced the increase in fish quality, one is the new minimum for both trout and greyling and the fact that “catch and release” is now become the new trend. This has come about due to the fact that foreign fishermen have shown locals a new way of approaching fishing.

Research will continue for some years to come and we hope this in a new trend starting here in Norway!!
