Landowners will stop free fishing for children.

Local landowner from Telemark, Harald Kvålen will stop all children under sixteen from fish his lakes. He has told local newspapers that these children are thieves. He has also claimed that it is an intrusion of his right as a landowner.

This is despite that fact that the government has declared in its laws that all children under 16 can fish in both salmon rivers and lakes for free. Now Mr Kvålen via his lawyer Olav Felland has delivered a formal request to the Telemark court for the case to be tried. This could lead to the case being heard in the High Court.

Mr Kvålen has also claimed the parents are sending their children in the mountains to catch fish. They then can save money by not paying for their fishing card. This claim needs to be proved before any such claim can be said to be true.

If Mr Kvålen has his way he will need to fight both the courts and the powerful group, Norges Jeger- og Fiskerforbund. Not only this but the government law regarding this will need to be totally rewritten.

This is no way to encourage children to start fishing. Keep your eyes on fishbooking news we will be following this case closely.
