Fishing’s bag limits

Norway is not the only country to increase its control over the tourist fishing industry. A resent report by Norges Turistråd and Norges Fiskarlag called” fish as bait” Has studied many other countries and have come to the conclusion that well managed fisheries are the future for Norway

We here at fishbooking have been upset at the number of fishermen through out Norway that are unaware of the national bag limit for recreation fishermen. Many of the sea and fresh water species have both bag limits and minimum lengths. Many countries through out the world have insisted that all fish are transported to their local checkpoint before they are cleaned and filleted.

It has been proven that the need to pay for salt-water fishing licences in countries such as Denmark, Australia and America has not reduced the number of recreational fishermen.

Denmark has proven to be a great example of this. Not only do all tourist fishermen pay a minimal day card but also this leads to awareness of both quotas and laws. All tourist charter captains are reasonable for their client’s mistakes. This can lead to a large fine for the captain involved. This is an idea that many here in Norway are now pushing the government to consider. This is a future possibility. Those in the trade have witnessed the open breach of many of Norway’s regulations. With out some form of management plan it will be difficult to police the number of undersized fish caught.
