One of the craziest fishing contest, Fisk & Fryd 2002

Da Boys
One of the many winners.
I never knew 200 gram fish ran so hard

Fishbooking is proud to be part of an eleven year long tradition of fishing madness. Alot was up for grabs this years first price was an Abu Garcia 5000 CDL. To make things interesting it was gold plated. Along with that many small prizes such as hip flasks and random prizes of wine and beer!

There we were assembled at the buss station all to early on a Saturday for my liking but at least everyone had the same thing on their mind, catching fish. Despite the early start and the wild southerly blowing we all managed to set our tents, flags, tables and barbeques. It was at this point that the madness started. Each nook and cranny was filled with a fisherman intent on taking home the reel.

Among many of the small groups dotted over the lake was a team called “team Hagen”. It was one of their “wet” competitors that won the reel but for me the real winner was team “Poker”. Never have I seen such a sight. Four men sitting around a table playing poker while their worms did the work for them. Never once did I see them sweat or even put an effort into their fishing but they “killed” so many fish.

Lunch was called and the gang had the sing along and a beer or two. This was followed by the all important photo session. Finally full bellies and full heads ruled the day and it was time to start the last round. It was at this point that everyone had his or her eye on the prize. Four hours later the final bell rang and the weigh in was underway. I have fished many contests in my time but it was the first time in my life I’ve seen any one win a contest with a 300 gram fish.

All I can say is that this was a successful event that will continue for years to come. Fishing was the true winner of this event and after all any excuse to have a beer with the boys on a wind swept lake will do.
