Opening day !

The next round of the season has just opened and the reports are already coming in. I was at my local river for the first cast. Unfortunally the lack of rain over May as led to low water flow in the river but that has not stopped the locals from giving it a shot.

The latest information that has been phoned in is good. Plenty of fish have been caught in Sogn fjord. The true star of Sogn has been Flekke River three salmon were caught in the first moments of the season. The largest of these weighed in at 7.2 kilo. Not a bad way to start you season! The people we have on the river have sent in reports that the river is full of fish. Lets hope the remanding season lives up to the first day.

Reports from Guala were also very good nine fish were landed in a short time. As reports come in we will keep you update

Part two

her is the last word for opening day Sunday 2 june

Reports for the opening day have not been what were hoped. In Tronderlag it is been sunny for long period. Temperatures have hovered between 12 and 15.C, which is some weeks early. Despite that the large salmon run started well and a number were caught in the earlier rivers. There is already a rumour that small salmon have been spotted wandering in Gaula and Namsen.

In Gaula river there was plenty of big salmon. Those that were caught already showed their brown beading coats. The reason for this was the salmon has been sighted some weeks earlier in the river. In Måsøra on Lundamo 5 fish were caught and many more spat their hooks. Horgøien opposite Lundamo the largest fish of opening day was caught. At total weight of 15kg is enough to put a smile on anyone’s face. Added that that four more big salmon were landed and several more were dropped.

In Namsen has sent in great reports A few fish were taken on the chine of the opening bell. Gartland reported 9 salmon between 5 and 11 kilo.
Verdalselva (river) was expected to open with a bang but in the first twelve hours only two fish were caught the biggest been 7.2 kilo. The only reason that the season opening has been so disappointing is the out of season sunshine. The North has been bathed by sun for the last month. The lack of rain has meant the fish are held up in the fjords. It is expected that the first good rain will kick the season of with a bang.

Os river has been dry for weeks but a good number of larger fish have been spotted in the deeper pools but the largest fish caught was just4.2kg
Stjørdalelva (river) has had a great start to their season. Over 15 large salmon were caught on the firs day. The story of the day is that 80-year-old Hjalmar Pavel landed a monster 9-kilo fish
