Fish farms defy laws.

The has been yet another farm that has “lost” its’ stock of fish here on the West Coast. Fishermen have been out by the dozen to taken advantage of the free fishing for (farmed) salmon in Bjørnefjorden.

Police have reported that over 2000 fish escaped last week and now they have found the source. Bolaks is the company responsible for the slack control. Police are concerned that this industry does not take this serious enough to even raise an eyebrow. Bellona, one of the world environment watchdogs has demanded that police take action under the “Norwegian wild salmon protection act”. The have stated that the only way to reduce the numbers of farmed fish in our fjords is to fine the owners/operators of these hopelessly managed farms.

Bellona has long claimed that the genetic diversity of our wild stocks is in threat. If government departments that control the standards of these farms is not willing to follow the law then what have wild salmon?
