Good results for the early season at Numedalslågen

Salmon have arrived early this year at Lågen this year. It is so seldom that fish are caught so early in the season as far up stream Brufoss (falls). Added to this reports of good fishing are pouring in over the entire system.

Long before the season opening salmon have been spotted as far up stream as Hvittfossen (falls). In fact the largest salmon caught is a fantastic 10.5-kilo. It was caught in Kjærra just a few days ago. The lucky fisherman was Ole Bjørn Melås. He has fished this region for over 25 years and he claimed that he has never seen so many salmon in the river. Just the other day he played a 5-kilofish much to the pleasure of one of the local photographers.

Due to the modern world of instant reporting via the Internet fishermen have been slow to report their catch. This is done in the hope that other fishermen will not hear the news until it’s too late. This is not only a selfish attitude but also a practise that goes against the principle of Lågendalen. You see this river is famed as an open river. Every one is welcome.

Fishing cards are so popular that weekends are all but booked and weekday fishing is almost the last option. For example Rienlågen is already booked this weekend. One of the reasons for this is the fly fishermen have heralded this as a prime location.

Other zones in this region have reported good catches. For example Sjulstadlågen, Holmfoss and Kjærra are all doing well for this time of year.
