Tractor fishing for Halibut

With help of a tractor and a few mates Carl Einar Isachsen managed to drag a monster halibut to land. It weighed 248 kilograms. Not a bad day on the beach.

An amusing way to find your catch of the day is take a stole along the shoreline. A few people had sighted the fish lying dead in the low tide range so Carl thought he would attempt to drag it to shore a investigate what had happened to the fish. He had figured that he fish was uneatable but worth a look at any way. This proved to be difficult. It took two men and a tractor to “land” the fish.

The fish was over 6-feet long and maybe a record for the national tractor fishing class? At least it was a personal record for the non-fishing farmer.

Karin Pittman has researched halibut since 1986 for the university of Bergen and said that a fish of this size is an exceptional event. The fish was later studied and it was given the all clear to eat. A fish dealer in the north bought the fish for 3000 kroner, 300£.

The only explanation for the fish’s death was it was hunting its lunch in shallow water and tipped over. Not unlike a turtle. Strange things can happen here in Norway!!!!!
