Will anyone help Vefsn river?

Things are so bad on my river I can hardly speak about it. This is the latest word for river owner Erling Karlsen and leader of the Kvalfors river owners group. So far this season only five salmon have been hooked in Vefsn (River) since the 1st of June.

Unfortunally his river is battling with the dreaded parasite gyro’ and despite his pleas to the government for help he has yet to receive the funding needed. He has said that the river no longer produces it’s own smolt and the only way to help is by setting out smolt.

This is a common practice among other infected rivers but for some reason many other rivers are given a higher standing and he is forced to see his river slowly die.

There are so many factors that come into play when a rivers dies. Local shops and camping grounds feel the pinch as tourists avoid rivers with bad fishing. This was witnessed in the early 90’s at Voss when it’s famed river started to crash. We can only hope the government hears his cry’s for help and takes into consideration that it more than a river they help by releasing smolt .
