Last Sunday the family Håvardstun from Bergen sailed out for an enjoyable fishing trip in their small boat. Their plan was to compete in a local fishing contest. Armed with heavy jigs and rubber squid imitations they were ready to land the winner. Hilda their 6-year old daughter insisted on joining in the fun. So it was here the story beings.
After a while of jigging Hilda father hooked a sweet cod and this lead to a fantastic fight, which took all of his concentration. This left Hilda to sit and enjoy her days fishing. Her father had rigged a cheap rod with a Jensen lure and told her not to feed to much line out. (This was to stop the need to unhook a lure snagged on the bottom).
The father’s fight turned out to be a ripper of a contest but Unfortunally meters before the boat his line snapped. This resulted in a few chosen words that can’t be printed. Almost drowned out by screams of her father was cries for help, Hilda had hooked a meaty fish. With help from her father Hilda managed to land her cod, which weighed in at 2-kilo. Not bad for a six year old! Both father and daughter jumped for joy but the biggest shock was hanging from the cod’s jaw. Upon its unintentional release the cod was on it’s way down to its murky home. Unfortunally with its new found jewelry hanging from its mouth the fish swam beside the Jensen lure dangling at the end of Hilda’s rod. This resulted in an instead tangle that was cause of its visit to the surface.
Finally time came for the family to return to land. Hilda was the star of the day and her poor father managed to come home empty handed. To add insult to injury the fish was weigh at the contest weigh-in and Hilda’s fish was the largest caught in the under eight class.
The photo you see of her is taken on the boat with her trophy. Hilda father sent us the photo and an explanation of what happened. If you have a story that is worth telling the by all means send us a photo and a few words and we will publish it. Skot
