Mackerel are moving North.

An interesting little note from a young fisherman in the North ha landed on my desk. Eight year old Eirik Johansen and his family have spent their summer holiday in Narvik which is just a few hours South of Troms.
It was here that he caught a fish that seldom visits this region.

Skot

This is a popular cod fish area and every year tourist flock to try their hand at cod jigging. Young Eirik
had great success with by days end he had landed a great fish totalling four kilo. He most unexpected catch was
a kilo Mackerel. His mother has commented that she has never seen mackerel that far north before.

There is an easy explanation for this. The North has been living under almost tropical conditions for the
entire summer and the Mackerel have followed the warn current north. So if you are on the North coast don’t
be shocked if you catch one of our Atlantic Mackerel
