This year has proven to be a tough year for salmon fishermen. The unseasonal dry spell we have lived through has meant that most of this year’s salmon are still in the fjords waiting for the rain before they start their run. Yet there are plenty of rivers showing us that there is hope. One such river is Vensta Jakobselva and Jan has had a dream season. His latest catch is nothing short of record breaker.

When asked how long it took to land this monster he said it was the best half hour he can remember. It must be said that landing a fish of that size is a two-man job and luckily he had help from a mate, Oddvar Mikkonen. Oddvar was so worried because the simply don’t make nets that big but with a little effort they did it. Well done and don’t forget that over the next week our review of all salmon rivers will be downloaded in our “where to fish” column.
