Director for fisheries in Finnmark (northern Norway) fear massive trout losses in two of there lake if water is continually drain from two of their much loved lakes.
Skot
In the last month the lack of rainfall has really began to show some disturbing effects. lille Nykjua (small Nykuja lake) and Nykjua lake have been all but emptied.
This is a result of the local hydro power station has been using these lakes to supply their water generated power system. Now the local Drammen og omegn fiskeriadministrasjon (DOFA) (Drammen fisheries department) are worried if the trend does not stop the large numbers of will die. Kristian Holmsen from the Drammens Times has said that the fishing has been so good this year that it would be a tragic loss.
The biggest concern is the lake will freeze to the bottoms lays thus not giving the trout any chance to survive the winter. The groups involved in controlling the lake have said they have no money for restocking the lake and this could result in a total loss of trout with in both lakes.
It will be a tragic loss if you talk into account that the DOFA has spent valuable time and money introducing calk to these lakes in order to increase the number of fish.
