Eida is not a river in its own right but it is the upper stretch of one of the world’s great salmon rivers Bjøra. Hidden in north Tronderlag only a few kilometres upstream is a river stretch that invites any salmon fisherman.

North Tronderlag is one of the bastions of Atlantic salmon. It is here where the trophy hunting takes place. Fishbooking’s star reporters left the office Friday afternoon and were prepared for the 1000 kilometre drive. What we didn’t expect is the shear beauty of the countryside. The good news was we arrived safe and were amped for the first cast of the year.
Beaver’s world It very simple to describe this river, it has two flowing pools and a wide run that meets the lake. The first of these is known by the name of “Beaver” pool. It is here the river drops from the top lake and starts it’s fast flowing journey. At the point it hits beaver and swings to the right. Along the thin line between the still and fast water is where you will find the salmon sitting. We did!
Then when you walk down stream the first thing that will take your eye is a small hole on the right. This is a perfect spin casting pool one that I saw a great deal of optimism I’m certain if you are a keen worm fishermen then this is a little gem. One thing to take note of is this is a nightmare of a pool for fly fishermen.
The last and best run is the out flow. Given good water flow this run can offer 200/300 meters of class fly-fishing. The holes and stones are simple to read and it is here that a spread of casters is easily accommodated. We were in a party of three and had no problem finding enough room. The landowner currently rents all three zones for a maximum of six fishermen but she has told me that she plans to reduce this by one.
Future Plans.
This river is owned and managed by a charming couple. My contact person was Birgit Romstad. She went on to explain that they have just purchased the river rights and the charming farmhouse. Over the season they have big plans to both rebuild the accommodations and create a better package for fishermen. For example shelter and a new fire pit. Yet at the end of the day it’s the river that speaks for it’s self.
Birigit and I went through some details of what we fishermen need to be happy beside the river so I can assure our readers that this is an up and coming river. As for raw facts the paramount time to fish this river is mid June and through to the end of August. Here is a handy guide for the fishing in this river system
Average weight. Year Total Salmon Sea-trout Salmon Sea-trout 2001 3 318kgs 3 197 121 5kg 0,6 kilos 2000 3 829 3 665 163 5 0,8 1999 1 305 1 124 181 4,8 0,8 1998 1 656 1 431 225 4,3 0,8 1997 1 153 1 054 98 5,1 0,8
Over all I can recommend this river it not only offers many different forms of fishing for the skilled angler but as a package deal it a name for the future. If you have any question about this river Ring Birgit she speaks English and German. Her number is 74321917
