The man with the tundra as his playground

Back

Are you in the market for an adventure that wet dreams are made of? Well our man from Tana (northern Norway) has just what you are looking for. Torstein Erlandsen has years of local knowledge in both Northern Russia and eastern Finnmark. He is the only man we trust when we are travelling north. The good news is Skot and I am northward bound for our annual Russian adventure.

Who knows maybe Skot can catch one of these?
The tundra in all its glory!

Our partners at Norwegian Tundra Explorer offer all types of fishing in the north. As for their tours in the Northern plateaus of the Kola Peninsula well they are the best in the trade. Fishing tourism is somewhat of a new trade and Russian fishing adventures are famed for their cowboy approach. So many small two-bit companies appear and disappear each year. N.T.E has been in this trade for many years and have nothing but highest standards for we fishermen.

We have seen a few famous cases of this in resent years in fact Norway’s best film makers Bård and Lars returned from a disastrous trip, which was plagued but bad planning and promises by companies that could not live up to their grand plans. Torstein heard of this and could do nothing less than fly the lads back to his playground. What can we say but Bård wrestled the largest brown trout and salmon of his live.

To travel Russia is no easy feat. You need good contacts and a serious planning to avoid the pit falls We here at Fishbooking.com only use this company for one simple reason, we trust them.! Not only that but the amount of high profile film crews that have travelled under their guidance is all that need to be said.

Skot and I are flying North to Kirkenes and from there we be driven to Tana were we will have the chance to fish for a few days before heading off to the east. All we can say that we hope to land a few fish in Norway before we start the eastern leg of our adventure. For those of you that are new to the word of salmon fishing Tana is the world best river, even skot could catch a fish there

From Tana we will hit the road and give the gas peddle a thumping until we reach the infamous town of Murmansk. Waiting for us is N.T.E’s helicopter that will transport us to the river mouth of Sidorovka. This river is something else. It is crystal clear which is unlike many of the rivers in Kola. It flows into the North Sea via a variety of terrain, for example large bolder beds and hard flowing currents. The challenge of this river is you can almost see every fish. It is somewhat like the river of New Zealand, but this has muscle bound salmon instead.

All of these rivers are set a side for fly-fishing only but this should not stop even the beginner from giving it a shot. All fishing is catch and release so all hooks must be “barbless”. These are the reasons for the success of the entire peninsula.

Our tour starts at the river mouth and our plan id to photograph and document the entire 150 kilometres of the river. So stay tuned to Skots Outpost for the details of the fishing and Nightlife along the river.

Next season Fishbooking.com will offer fishing adventures of this calibre via our partner Norwegian Tundra Explorers to Sidavoka and many of the other rivers they have in their portfolio so stay turned and get ready to be blown away by our up coming reports.
