Greyling (Harr)

Thymallus thymallus

Greyling grow up to 3kg but fish over no longer that common. They spawn in
the spring. The male keeps a harem. The female digs a nest so as to protect
her eggs. Greyling can spawn in flowing water. They are found in eastern
Norway (east of Mjøsa). The largest percentages are found in Finnmark, Rauma
in Møre and Romsdals, Trønderlag, Nordland, and Troms. They live in running
and still water. When in river they prefer the still runs. Greyling eat an
assortment of insects, lavear and falling insects that fall on the waters
surface.
