Clupea harengus
Norwegian herring belong to the " norskkehavssild" (atlanto-skandinavisk).
This sub family needs high salt content. This is the opposite the fjord
sub-group. They can be found in almost pure fresh water. Herring live along
the coast for the first few years of their life before starting the life in
the open ocean. They are caught on most forms of light tackle.
